Bridge Tolls and the Disabled
We were asked about these a little while ago, and have since done a little research. Not all toll crossings offer concessions to Blue Badge holders and possession of a badge does not automatically entitle you to concessions at some crossings either.
In some cases to qualify for the concession you will need to apply to the relevant bridge, tunnel or local authority in advance. So it is a good idea to check with owners or operators first and contact details are included where applicable.
Clifton Suspension Bridge

Dartford Bridge (River Thames)
If you are exempt from the payment of Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax), you can get an exemption. Regular users making a minimum of 4 journeys per week can get an exemption card.

Dunham Bridge
Concessions available only to those driving motor vehicles supplied by a Government Health Department (formerly known as three-wheeled trikes).
Erskine Bridge
Tolls were removed from the Erskine Bridge on March 31, 2022
Forth Road Bridge
Tolls are charged for northbound traffic only but on May 31, 2007, the Scottish Parliament voted to abolish tolls and the Government said it hoped to achieve this by the end of the year.
Exemption for Blue Badge holders. You should show your badge at the toll booth to qualify for the exemption.
Humber Bridge
The Humber Bridge Board provides toll exemption for people in receipt of the higher rate of mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance and who have a tax-exempt vehicle, i.e. a motability car. The disabled person does not have to be the driver.
People must apply in advance by completing an application form and returning it to this office with a copy of their tax exemption certificate and a copy of the vehicles tax disc or vehicle registration document. Once their application has been approved they are sent 20 vouchers, one being handed in for each journey made. The disabled person MUST be in the vehicle when an exemption voucher is used.
There is no limit on the number of tickets a person can have and further supplies are sent when the applicant submits a re-application form, sent out with each batch of tickets.

Itchen Toll Bridge
The Itchen Bridge provides a toll exemption for people in receipt of the higher rate of mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance.
The scheme provides the disabled person with an identity card and tokens to provide them free crossing in any vehicle (with the exception of HGV vehicles).

The Severn Bridge
Go to a manned booth!
On arrival at a manned toll booth, you will need to hand your UK Blue Disabled Persons Badge to the Toll Collector. The Toll Collector will check the validity of the Badge, that the Badge Holder is in the vehicle and will record the Badge details. The Badge Holder will then be asked to sign a form, if they are unable to sign, the driver can sign on their behalf. The Badge will be returned and the barrier raised for you to continue your journey.
Payment can be made by either Cash or Cheque with a valid cheque guarantee card only. Credit and debit cards are not accepted.
Skye Bridge
The Skye Bridge runs from Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland, to Kyleakin on Skye itself. The road itself forms part of the A87 trunk road.
The Skye Bridge was opened in October 1995 and replaced the ferry from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin.
Tolls on the bridge were removed in December 2004.
Tamar Bridge & Torpoint Ferry
Free vouchers are available for individuals who:
– receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance;
– receive War Pensioners Mobility Supplement;
– are exempt from the payment of Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax); and
– are registered blind.
An advance application for free vouchers must be made (an application form can be downloaded here.
Applications must be accompanied by a fee of £2.00 and passport photograph.
Up to 100 vouchers per year will be issued after proof of entitlement and a passport photograph must be supplied.
A stamped addressed envelope must accompany all enquiries.

Tay Road Bridge
The Tay Road Bridge crosses the Firth of Tay, linking Dundee to northern Fife. The road forms part of the A92.

Tyne Tunnel
Near Newcastle.
Exemption for those exempt from the payment of Vehicle Excise Duty (road tax).
Whitchurch Bridge
The Company allows free crossings for disabled persons who are in receipt of the High Rate of the Mobility Component of the DLA, Enhanced Rate of PIP, or War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement, whose vehicles are registered in the Disabled Class. Disabled persons need to pre-register with the Company using the Disabled Driver Registration Form which may be downloaded here or obtained on request from the Toll Collectors.
The Company reserves the right to restrict this concession to disabled persons with a local address who need to use the Bridge on a regular basis. A disabled person’s ‘free’ Bridge Card may only be used when the nominated disabled person is in the vehicle.
Whitney on Wye Bridge
Blue Badge holders can cross at half price.
